The Manchild mystery revealed

Manchild mystery has been revealed. The answer to the question on which is the tougher sex becomes obvious time and again when the common cold hits the household. While women just blow their noses into their tissues, they manage to make breakfast, herd the kids off to school, get dressed, and go to work. Men, on the other hand, stay in bed all day and moan about their terrible illness.

Such is the Manchild, the sometimes annoying yet often endearing regression of men into babies whenever the cold or flu virus gets into their system.
This phenomenon is the topic of the day in the launch event of Vicks VapoRub at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City last October 10, 2013. Celebrity talk show host RJ Ledesma and editor-cum-blogger Frances Amper Sales discuss the psyche of the Manchild and explore various helpful tips and remedies to deal with this condition.
“There are times when I get really sick and it is during these times that I always hope to get my wife’s attention and take care of me like how a mother takes care of her children.

Among his medication is the love that he receives from his wife Vanessa.

“She’s very motherly in showing me her love,” RJ admits.

Frances agrees that the motherly instinct generally kicks in when wives deal with their husbands’ cold symptoms.
She says of her husband: “Vince hardly gets sick so when he’s down with the flu, he really needs tender loving care! That’s when I baby him with lots of liquids, hot food, massages with Vicks VapoRub, and by making him get lots of sleep,” she explains.

Men may be tough on the outside but their inner Manchild reveals how much they still need to be babied just like their children with tender loving care when they get sick. Irritated by constant coughing and overcome with throbbing headaches, the Manchild needs immediate relief and all the support he needs to get back on his feet fast.

Towards this end, RJ and Frances reveal several helpful tips, such as giving him warm, comforting soupy dishes like arroz caldo, which, with its garlic and ginger ingredients, helps relieve nasal congestion. Mixing calamansi juice with honey also helps ease sore throat and supply him with lots of Vitamin C to fight cold. Constant sneezing and rubbing can dry and redden the nose, so having a bottle of moisturizer can help lessen his irritation.

Together with Vicks Vaporub, these common household remedies will do wonders to uplift the mood of the Manchild. That’s why both RJ and Frances state that Vicks is a staple solution in their homes.

“I really enjoy the moment my wife gently massages Vicks VapoRub on my head and I start feeling the relief in just a few minutes,” RJ says. Vicks VapoRub is as effective on RJ’s kids as on his own inner manchild.

Frances is also confident that just as Vicks works great on their kids, it is also effective on her big kid of a husband. “I use Vicks VapoRub when he is feeling heavily congested. I massage it onto his back. I also put a dollop in a basin of hot water,” she says proudly. “This makes a wonderful decongestant and humidifier at the same time.”
Vicks VapoRub’s combination of Camphor, Eucalyptus Oil and Menthol is proven to provide fast relief in just 5 minutes from various symptoms of cold or flu, such as dry cough, blocked nose, breathing difficulties, body aches, headaches, and muscular stiffness. For over a century, this brand has been trusted by generations of Filipinos who have grown up with its therapeutic value and use it in turn on their children. It is available in 5 gm., 10 gm., 50 gm. and now in the new 25 gm family size jar at any Mercury Drug outlet, pharmacies and supermarkets nationwide.
